Tortugas Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
Erie pitcher Xever Valdéz did his part in helping his team beat the Azua Tortugas, 3-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Erie reliever Dave Charles picked up the win, upping his record to 5-3. Anastasio Ríos absorbed the loss. Picking up the save was Ángelo Joachín. He's now 33 for 34 in save chances.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Soichiro Yoneda's at-bat in the top of the ninth was vitally important. With two out, the Erie second baseman reached on an error by the P, driving in 2 runs, to give his team a 3-1 lead.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Yoneda. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
The triumph puts Erie at 65-31 for the season.
