Samsung Lions Come Up Short at Monterrey, 2-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Monterrey Alacranes and the Suwon Samsung Lions. Monterrey won it, 2-1. Monterrey starter Gookie Villagrán was in command. Wally Stanley, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 21st save. The win puts Monterrey at 38-22 this season.
Monterrey third baseman Ronnie Travasos contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 41st hit of the season and put the Alacranes ahead, 2-1.
"The old adage is true," said Travasos. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
