WBH Weekly Wrap-Up for July 21, 2016

JPN - Happy times in Tokorozawa as the Arsenal and star starting pitcher George Eames put the finishing touches on a $41,970,000 contract extension that will keep the 33-year-old in town 3 years longer. But, wait! This deal was a pre-req to a trade between the Arsenal and the Detoit Tigers. Yes, Eames is coming to Detroit, and here is the announcement…

CAN - The Tigers and Arsenal confirmed this afternoon that a trade had been agreed upon. In the deal, Detroit will get 33-year old starting pitcher George Eames, while Tokorozawa will receive 37-year old starting pitcher Jung-min Yu, 21-year old minor league shortstop Huang-fu Tsu, 22-year old minor league catcher Dalton Laporte and 20-year old minor league right fielder Won-sup Kim.

VEN - And the beat goes on. Caracas just keeps racking up the wins. They are now 52-21 with a 17.0-game lead.

PAN - “Believe it or not,” said Pittsburgh shortstop Manobu Shirai, “they threw me some good pitches today.” That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Chaos Titans with a great 5-hit performance.

PUR - Mona left fielder Raúl Huerta has a pinched nerve, suffered while making a defensive play. He’s expected to be out for 3 weeks.

DOM - The Bani Banshees move into second place in the LOD as Tocumen slips.

MEX - Cancun fans will be disappointed to learn that Benjamin Tisnado developed a fractured foot while running the bases in today’s game. After the doctor informed the Cancun Mojitos manager that Tisnado was expected to miss 2-3 months, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the second baseman could return. “You can’t make excuses in baseball, because there’s always a game tomorrow,” said the team’s skipper.

CUB - The marquee name in the Longitude Division this week is Manuelo Chávez of the Taegu Black Bears. The hot-hitting 32-year-old left fielder put up a .357 average and .357 on-base percentage, piling up 10 hits in 28 at-bats, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

CHN - Marred by front-office turnover after last season, the Philadelphia Stars ushered in Steve Millar as their new general manager today, The 34-year-old told the fans and media during a press conference that he expected to earn their support.

CHN - Latitude Division pitchers will attest that it was tough to get Manchu Zang of the Wuhan Blackhawks out last week. His all-around performance at the plate made him the league’s most recent Player of the Week. The 33-year-old left fielder boasted a .440 average with 1 home run, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Zang went 11-25 for the week.

CUB - The LAD is becoming a two-team race between Beijing and Toa Baja.

MEX - The latest out of Oaxaca indicates that Elí Charana has re-signed with the Nueve Garras de Jaguar and that the 29-year-old reliever is set to earn $2,700,000 over a 2-year span.

DOM - The Bocas del Toro Ranas Rojas have seen attendance increase over 25% from last season.

PUR - The Osan Flying Squid use a good week to take the lead in the LOD. They are now 2.0 games up on Bayamon.

KOR - Jays right fielder,Chae-ku Pak, had his way with Cheju pitching today at Jays Ballpark and mauled them for 5 hits in 7 at-bats, but it was all in vain. The Volcano ruined his great day by outscoring the Jays 8-7.

PAN - A throng of media gathered as Ricardo Ortíz announced that he had come to terms with the Chaos Titans and that he would be sticking around town another 2 years. Ortíz is set to draw $5,440,000 in pay over that time.

CAN - A blow for Tom Sabine today — team doctors confirmed he will miss 7 weeks with a damaged meniscus. Sabine suffered the injury throwing a pitch. Although officials from the Calgary Outlaws are confident he’ll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about Sabine’s ability to return fully fit with an injury
of this nature.

JPN - Toledo remains at the top of the JPN power rankings followed by Lagunillas and Tokorozawa.

USA - The Cigars tried, but could not solve Baracoa’s Oldemar Silva, falling to the Bahia 8-0. Havanna managed only 3 hits off Silva, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 11 strikeouts and walked 2.

USA - San Lorenzo feeling good about the future. The team continues to have the top minor-league system in the USA.

CAN - Jung-min Yu went the distance at Detroit Grounds today. The Detroit hurler yielded 2 hits, walked 0 and had 6 strikeouts in the Tigers 4-0 triumph over the Hong Kong Giants. This was Yu’s last start before he was traded to Tokorozawa.

PAN - Balboa Barracudas get to 50 wins. Their lead is now 11.0 games.
