WBH Weekly-Wrap-Up for June 16, 2016

CHN - Rally Cat 1B Alberto Anruvio went on a tear this week, raising his batting average 30 points in one calendar week. At the heart of his blazing bat were two 4 hit performances, the most impressive on June 10th against Quebec. In this game, Anruvio went 4-6 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s. His two home runs totaled 822 feet (382, 440).

MEX - Toluca’s Roldán ‘Tiog’ Molina pulls up his boot straps and performs after hearing rumors of a demotion to AAA. He went 8 strong innings against Cancun allowing 5 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 6 K’s. Toucans still don’t know what a Tiog is…

CUB – Trouble in Toronto? The club is only 3-10 in June.

PUR - The Inchworms manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Mona Iguanas 6-0. “It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time,” he said. Kyuso Nagamoto blanked them on 3 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts.

CAN - Detroit is 15-4 at home this season, only 10-13 on the road.

USA - San Lorenzo Legends RF Dustin Goyer was injured while running the bases. The Diagnosis: dislocated shoulder. He’s expected to miss about 8 weeks.

DOM - Santiago de los Caballeros go 5-1 this week.

VEN – The Cienfuegos Piratas get their first wins of the month.

MEX - Toluca’s free agent disappointment Tetsui Akechi gets worse. How can it get worse than an OPS of .550 after 36 games? Try 8 months on the DL. I guess any replacement won’t have much pressure to fill his shoes.

PAN - Arraijan Chaos Titans: SP Ricardo Ortíz was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: back spasms. He’s expected to miss about 8 weeks.

JPN - Castel Vera had an impressive outing today. He hurled the Lagunillas Loros to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Vertientes Fumadores, yielding 1 hit with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk.

CAN – Detroit closer Men leads the team in wins with 5.

PUR - It was a great game for Bienvenido Razo of the Bayamon Bulldogs. The 32-year-old hurler blanked the Ponce Argonauts 6-0, stopping them on 3 hits.

MEX – Is .500 ball enough? The Tijuana Grasshoppers lead the LOD with a record of 21-21.

USA – Havanna looking for answers against Akashi Fordians. The Cigars are 1-8 versus their division rivals so far this year.

CHN - After the end of today’s game between Changsha and Wuhan, Zhong-yan Juan skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor’s office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after being hit by a pitch, the Dragon Riders had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The left fielder will miss at least 8 months with a fractured cheekbone.

MEX - You have to feel bad for whoever ends up second in Mexico’s LAT division, as it appears each team from the LON division will not be much better than .500. The season is still early, but 1/3 of it is in the books.

KOR - San Juan Marauders are struggling on the road. The team is now 3-16 in away games.

DOM - The players apparently knew they were on the trading block, so it did not surprise one of them when he learned that he had been traded to Nagasaki. “Got my bags packed already,” he said, when reached for comment. The Blues will receive 27-year old shortstop Xie-li Tze and $2,000,000 in cash, while 30-year old shortstop Sergio Trevino and 23-year old minor league left fielder Reyes Escoto will go to the Ciudad Bolivar Liberators.

VEN - Caracas Cartel: Signed MR Jose Gálvez to a 3-year contract extension worth a total of $9,990,000.

CAN - Cold front in La Habana as Los Leones manage only one win this week.

JPN - “He’s got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving,” said the Barquisimeto manager after watching Aquilino Lóbez of the Toledo Mudhens humiliate his club 6-0 in a fine 2-hit shutout.

CHN - Both benches got involved in a rowdy fracas during the Changsha-Philadelphia game at Dragon Riders Ballpark. The two main culprits have been suspended by the league. The Dragon Riders José Bringuez and the Stars Lorenzo Balai were each issued 7-game suspensions for their unsportsmanlike behavior and aggressive actions.

MEX - Pitcher’s duel at the plate. Toluca’s SP Aquila Ropizar take’s SP Huo-tu Yi of Oaxaca Nueve Garras de Jaguar deep, and Yi manages just 1 single in three trips to the plate against Ropizar. Neither pitcher figured in the decision despite respectable game scores of 65. Toluca wins in extra innings with a SF off of Bong-hwan Yi (no relation) in the top of the 11th.

CUB - The Hawks received bad news this morning. Yoshihisa Kodo will miss 8 months due to a fractured cheekbone. In the Hukuoka-Toa Baja game he sustained the injury while being hit by a pitch. “I’m disappointed more than anything,” he told reporters later in the day. “You can’t help your team on the bench,” Kodo sighed. “I’ll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery.”

JPN - The Deadwood Aces & Eights should take all their games into extra innings. To date, the team is 4-0 this year in extra-inning games.

MEX - Walk this way… Toluca’s rookie Efraín Costa has 40 walks in 41 games. With a superb 5 to 1 walk to K ratio, opposing managers should watch for the hit-and-run if this guy is up with men on base.

JPN - The doctors have spoken and Damián Yarrito of the Barquisimeto Obeliscos didn’t like what he heard. The 26-year-old shortstop is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Yarrito sustained his season-ending back injury during the Deadwood Aces & Eights game yesterday at Obeliscos Ballpark.
