The Barquisimeto Obeliscos did just enough to secure a victory over the Thunder Bay Avengers, 4-3, at Thunder Bay Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Toshinobu Sato. In 8 innings, Sato surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Luís Pacheo earned the save, his 27th in 31 tries.
Barquisimeto used a well-timed hit by Juan Litorja to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Obeliscos ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I like what I saw today," said Barquisimeto manager , "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
With the win, the Obeliscos sit at 48-44.
